04/05/09: Previously On Prison Break...
As any of you who have read my last blog, I
am spending far too much time play The Chronicles Of Riddick: Assult On Dark
Athena however, if you hadn't read it I may have just spoiled a small section
of it for you. Anyway, as you all
know Assult On Dark Athena comes with a remade, hi-def-afied version of
everyone's favourite anti-hero's previous adventure, Escape From Buthcher
Bay. You are most likely aware of
this due to Atari's constant premoting of it.
"By buying Assult On Dark Athena, you
are getting a remade Escape From Butcher Bay for free!"
But is this just a ploy to get you to buy a
new game with a five year-old game sell-o-taped onto it. The short answer is yes. The long answer is yes, but however...
With the last iteration of consoles I owned
a GameCube, my brother a PS2, and the family computer was far from being a
gaming powerhouse. So when Escape
From Butcher Bay came out in 2004 I was seriously considering buying an Xbox
just to play it, well that and Psychonauts. In the end I ended up missing out on Escape From Butcher
Bay, and being a huge fan of the film Pitch Black I was rather disappionted,
especially when I read how good a game it was. So imagine my glee when I read I had a second chance to play
it.
And you know what, it was worth the
wait. I like to think of myself as
a rather patient person, and waiting the last 5 years has only made my time
with Escape From Butcher Bay all the sweater. It has been one of only a few games, such as Fallout 3, to
completely immerse me in a world that I barely left until I completed the
game. So what may seem like an
underhanded marketing tactic is more like a second chance to play a quality
game.
